Chapter Eight: From Caterpillar to Butterfly

“When this operation is over, you would have Transition from a Caterpillar to a Butterfly. Make no mistake, this cocoon process will be more dangerous than any CPD assignment you’ve ever worked. Make sure your ‘A’ game is better than any game you ever played.” Agent Ford lectured.

Jordan displayed a nostalgic stare when responding to Agent Ford’s short lecture. “I’ve been longing to be more then CPD. Protecting those in my community is bittersweet then becoming the product of my environment. Growing up in Cleveland I had two options, gang bang and sell dope or show the naysayers their segregation can’t keep an honest Blackman down. I’m more than ready for this op. For my skill set is what you need to get this shit done. Let’s do this!”

Ford smiles in assurance of Jordan’s confidence. The two then exited her office into the “Duty room” for a team briefing. Indistinct chatter is occurring upon their entry. Ford commands the attention of the fellow agents and Detective Carter, who is also in attendance for this special meeting.

“Team, two days from now we will conduct a joint investigation with CPD on the premises of Juva De. Our goal is to learn how the murders of Gillespie, Lopez, Miller and DA McGarlin are related. We will further identify the network of this current drug distribution in our city. Rumor has it that local nightclubs may be involved with the dissemination of product.” Ford advised.

Jordan stands up to speak before the agents about his part in the assignment.

“As you know, I will be the undercover agent in this op. My cover will be a Trinidadian national visiting the City of Cleveland. I will try to identify any primaries who can lead us to our murderer and potential drug distributors.”

Detective Carter had a plan to implement Jordan’s cover, by using a third-party contact known associated to the Juva De night club.

“I know a former CPD copper who’s currently working patrol for GPD. He hangs out at the Juva De and knows a few employees of the establishment. He also has a thing for “Black Coffee”. I figure we send a female undercover his way and lock him in as a CI.” Carter informed.

Agent Duncan interjects and questioned Carter’s plan of action. She had reservations of bringing new personnel onto the team at short notice. To bring ease to Duncan’s concerns, Carter chooses her as the other operative for his plan.

“Agent Duncan will be driving west on Thornhurst towards East Boulevard. There will be a stop sign at that intersection. Duncan will roll through the stop sign, alerting the attention of our future CI. She will then continue north on East Boulevard towards Beechwood Road. The listed location is the Cleveland-Garfield Heights boarder, where we can have an unmarked observing the traffic stop.” Carter explains.

“What makes you think this cop will go for my vehicle?” Duncan asks.

“Browning is a stat-hog who’s looking to promote. I know this guy like the back of my hand.
